2024-25 La Liga salary limits spark surprises and major shifts

La Liga's salary limits for the 2024-25 season have been revealed, showing a significant boost for clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, while others face drastic cuts

La Liga has announced the salary caps for the 2024-25 season, revealing significant changes across the league.

Real Madrid tops the chart with a limit of £651 million, an increase from last season’s £583 million. Barcelona, recovering from financial issues, sees a remarkable 57% rise, bringing their cap to £367 million from £232 million last year. Atletico Madrid follows with £267 million.

However, not all clubs are benefitting from these increases. Sevilla faces one of the tightest budgets, with a limit of just £2.2 million. Espanyol is similarly restricted, with a cap of less than £7.8 million. Both clubs were well above their limits last season.

Real Sociedad and Villarreal are next in line, with caps of £137 million and £116 million, respectively. Real Betis follows with £94 million, while Athletic Bilbao’s cap is set at £86 million.

Girona has seen one of the most dramatic increases, with their limit rising by nearly 50% to £81 million, thanks to their upcoming Champions League participation.

Lower on the table, Leganes and Alaves operate on smaller budgets of £32 million and £33 million, respectively. Valencia and Celta Vigo, meanwhile, have each increased their limits to £64 million.

La Liga’s total spending limit has grown by £552 million since the start of the transfer window, reaching a total of £2.3 billion.

The league reports a total spend of £470 million, with £457 million in transfer income, excluding free transfers such as Kylian Mbappé.
