Alex Telles explains why CR7 was upset with his team-mates despite win

Ronaldo had been angry with the service being provided throughout the Villarreal game as United scraped a late victory

Manchester United entered Wednesday’s Champions League match needing a win after three defeats in their last four matches in all competitions.

Cristiano Ronaldo did it again in the Champions League scoring a late winner for Man United in their 2-1 win over Villarreal at Old Trafford.

It had been a largely poor evening for the Red Devils with Alex Telles’ stunning strike cancelling out Paco Alcacer’s opener.

Solskjaer’s side frantically searched for a winner and Ronaldo popped up in the 95th minute to secure a precious three points for United.

It is reported that Ronaldo had been angry with the service being provided throughout the game but Alex Telles has praised his team-mate for his conduct by saying he only needs one chance to win a game.

“So, it was the first time I play with him,” Telles said to TNT Sports.

“Off the pitch, we already have this closer relationship because we speak Portuguese. And five minutes before he was a little upset that we didn’t get any balls to him.

“I said ‘it will arrive, it will arrive, stay concentrated because it will arrive’. And as soon as I went off, Ronaldo doesn’t need much, right?

“We know his quality, we see it on a daily basis. So it only took one ball in the box and he gave us the victory. It’s a dream.”

Bruno Fernandes also praised the goalscoring instincts of his international teammate Ronaldo, who scored his fifth goal since returning to the club, firing in the late winner in front of the Stretford End.

“We knew it with Cristiano, in the box at any moment every ball in the box can be a goal. We start to make more crosses and risk a bit more down the wings and put the ball in the box,” said Fernandes.

“We know any moment with Cristiano in the box, they have the feeling for the goal, they feel it and they are there, Cristiano today once again and more and more in the current season, he, Edi [Cavani] and Anthony [Martial] will be really important for us because they will score many goals.”
