Career mode in EA FC 25 takes a leap into the future

EA Sports FC 25’s career mode introduces a host of new features that set a new standard for football management games

EA Sports has pushed the boundaries of football management with its latest iteration, EA FC 25.

Career Mode now includes advanced features like live starting points, allowing managers to begin their season at any real-world point in the football calendar.

“Players can choose to start their career mode journey from a live, real-world moment,” explained Alex Constantinescu, Principal Game Designer.

This feature allows you to take over a club mid-season, replicating scenarios faced by real managers.

The inclusion of social media elements brings a contemporary twist, where your decisions as a manager can attract both praise and trolling.

“Social media gives you this opportunity to be a bit more fun to break the norm a bit and make it feel authentic,” said Constantinescu.

This mirrors the high-stakes environment of real-life football, where every move is scrutinised by fans and the media alike.

One particularly exciting addition is the ability to customise your player’s starting skill points, inspired by MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.

“We took inspiration from games where you can create a maxed-out character from the beginning, bypassing the grind,” said Constantinescu.

Players can choose from three ‘Origin Stories’ or start with a ‘Clean Slate,’ allowing them to tailor their career journey to their preferences.

Numbers back up this evolution. Over 60% of players spend the majority of their time in Career Mode, according to internal data from EA Sports.

This statistic underscores the significance of the improvements made. Additionally, players can now earn Season Pass XP while managing their teams, a first for the series.

This change integrates Career Mode more closely with other aspects of the game, rewarding players for their managerial prowess.

Moreover, the women’s game is also receiving significant attention, with tailored career paths and live start points specifically for women’s leagues.

“For us it was basically the right time to deliver women in football in career mode,” Constantinescu explained, referring to the inclusion of top leagues and the Women’s Champions League.

This groundbreaking move highlights EA Sports’ commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that all players have the opportunity to engage deeply with the game.
