Football Manager 2025: Why this year’s version is a game-changer

Football Manager 2025 is set to revolutionise the series with major feature removals, new graphics, and the inclusion of women's football

The game’s transition to the Unity engine marks a substantial upgrade, enhancing the graphical fidelity and user interface.

“We’ve worked closely with Unity engineers to deliver a more streamlined experience,” said Miles Jacobson, head of Sports Interactive.

The new tile-based system aims to reduce the overwhelming number of screens and clicks, offering a more intuitive navigation.

Several long-standing features are being cut to streamline the gameplay.

Touchline Shouts, a popular feature among many players, will not be included in FM25.

Jacobson explained, “Shouts should happen instantly, but they only came into effect after the ball went out of play, making them less effective.”

In terms of licensing, FM25 will officially include the Premier League for the first time, moving away from the generic “English Premier Division.”

This change, while minor in gameplay, adds a layer of authenticity that fans have been modding into their games for years.

The inclusion of famous stadiums is also a possibility, thanks to the enhanced capabilities of the Unity engine.

Some features will return in future updates or versions.

Challenge Mode, a fan-favourite, is expected to make a comeback in FM26 or FM27.

However, Fantasy Draft will not be available at launch but will be patched in later.

FM25 is the starting point for the studio’s next 20 years,” Jacobson noted in his development blog.

The expected release date for Football Manager 2025 is November, in line with previous editions.

Pre-orders and more detailed announcements are anticipated in early September.

The game’s availability on Game Pass from day one continues, offering accessible options for fans.
