Liverpool have been hard at work stacking the academy with bright prospects in recent years. The Reds youth recruitment promises to produce a superstar or two in the near future.
One of our most exciting youngsters could’ve had a very different path; according to a report in the Liverpool ECHO, Mateusz Musialowski almost signed for Arsenal before joining Liverpool.
“When Musialowski played at Rakow Czestochowa, he drew some big club’s attention,” Polish-based Liverpool supporter Karolina Kurek told the Liverpool ECHO as part of their Academy Show podcast from Blood Red.
“He was involved in a Legia Warsaw football training camp but his parents weren’t sure about the move to Warsaw.
“They chose SMS Lodz instead that’s because he could commute to Lodz twice a week for training and then for the third time for a weekend’s match.
“When I see the space, I just go for it.” 👊

“In Warsaw, it was out of the question – he would have to move in – so basically his parents had an influence on his first steps.
“There were later many indications that he would go to Arsenal, where he was tested on a few occasions but their academy coaches weren’t sure whether to sign him or not.
“Maybe they were waiting too long because Stellar Group (football agency) stepped in and sent him to Liverpool.”
Liverpool beating Arsenal to Mateusz Musialowski may go down as a big story in the years to come.
The teenager just keeps on impressing in the academy and is being tipped for a bright future at the club.
