Real Madrid’s upcoming clash with Celta Vigo will mark a historic moment for Luka Modric
The Croatian midfielder, who turned 39 last month, will become the oldest player ever to represent the club, surpassing a record held by Ferenc Puskas since 1966.
Puskas, a Real Madrid legend, set the previous mark when he played his final match for the club at 39 years and 38 days old in a cup tie against Real Betis.

Modric, who has enjoyed a remarkable 12-year career at the Santiago Bernabéu, will etch his name deeper into the club’s illustrious history.
Since his arrival in 2012, the veteran has won an impressive 27 trophies with the Spanish giants, including six Champions League titles.
Earlier this season, he became the most decorated player in the club’s history by lifting the UEFA Super Cup.
Despite his age, Modric remains an integral part of Real Madrid’s midfield.
His vision, technique, and leadership continue to shine at the highest level, proving he still has the hunger to compete. “Luka is ageless; his desire to keep winning never fades,” a source close to the club commented recently.
When he steps onto the pitch at Balaidos, Modric will be 39 years and 40 days old, breaking a record that has stood for nearly six decades.
With another year’s extension not ruled out, it’s clear the Croatian legend is far from done with making history.
