Dates for 2021/22 Premier League season revealed

2021/2022 EPL season to get under way on August 14 and finish on May 22 2022, the league has announced. Summer break will be extended.

The start and finish dates for the next Premier League season have been announced, with the opening game taking place on August 14, with the final round of games all kicking off simultaneously on May 22, 2022.

The current 2020-21 Premier League season did not start until September 12 as a result of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and will run until May 23 this year.

Should any Premier League players reach the final of Euro 2020 on 11 July, then those players will have 34 days’ rest. Though clubs will likely grant additional rest for those players.

A statement from the league was released on Thursday which confirmed the dates for when the 2021-22 campaign will begin and end.

Shareholders (representatives from all 20 clubs) usually meet with Premier League leaders, including chief executive Richard Masters, during each international break to discuss key topics and setting the schedule for next season is

“The 2021/22 Premier League season will start on 14 August 2021. The final match round of the campaign will take place on 22 May 2022, when all matches will kick off simultaneously.”

The EFL season will start a week earlier, with confirmation that it will start on 6 August. The Football League have already confirmed that that will get underway on Friday August 6.

Fans will be permitted back in Premier League stadiums from 17 May.

Up to 10,000 fans will be allowed as the UK prepares to come out of lockdown, though only for stadiums with more than 40,000 seats.

Grounds will smaller capacities will be granted up to a quarter full.
