Despite rumors, Aguero is not considering retiring from football just yet

Sergio Aguero will not rush a decision on his playing future after reports claimed that he has been urged to retire by medical experts

Agüero, who joined FC Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer, had to be subbed in the first half of the Blaugrana’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo Alavés on October 30th, after accusing dizziness and chest discomfort.

It was just his second start for Barcelona after joining from City on a free transfer in the summer.

The Argentina international also suffered a similar incident in his youth.

On November 1st, FC Barcelona issued a statement confirming Agüero had been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process and said the former Man City legend would be out of action until February 2022, the earliest.

Earlier today, Catalunya Radio reported that tests had revealed Aguero’s heart problem was worse than initially feared and could bring a precipitated end to his career.

But Aguero responded to the speculation by saying he would not decide on his future until his three-month-long treatment had concluded.

He stated via Twitter: “To address the rumours, I can say that I am following the advice of the club’s doctors, completing tests and treatment and seeing my progress after 90 days. Always positive.”

During the 90 days, the Barça medical staff will assess the issue, which is an arrhythmia, to see whether it is safe for Sergio Aguero to return to action.

Aguero has started just twice for Barca since joining from Manchester City over the summer.

Man City’s all-time leading scorer and fourth all-time in the Premier League with 184 league goals, Aguero was part of Argentina’s Copa America-winning squad in 2020.
