Former Gunner described as ‘one of the best in the world’ six months after Arsenal exit

Manchester United have recently been credited with an interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez.

The Argentina international has been a revelation at Aston Villa this season, his £20 million transfer fee looking increasingly like a bargain with every fingertip save and comfortably claimed cross.

Suddenly, fans and pundits alike are lining up to question why Arsenal didn’t give more of a chance to a man who made just 15 Premier League appearances in almost a decade in north London.

The agent of former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been talking up the player, claiming he is among the best in the world in his position.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Gustavo Goni heaped praise on his client and claimed he would have been just good had he stayed at the Emirates.

“He’s proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

“Moving to Aston Villa was a success, it’s true, and he’s happy, but he’d have shone at any club including Arsenal!”

Martinez, who won the FA Cup with Arsenal last summer before moving to Aston Villa in a £20m deal has impressed this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in 27 appearances.

Man United ‘lining up’ offer for Aston Villa goalkeeper

After an impressive start to life with Villa, the argentine goalkeeper appears to have attracted interest from one of the Premier League’s big four.

A United source has told Football Insider that Martinez, 28, is at the top of their target list following his outstanding debut campaign for Villa.

The Premier League giants are planning a major overhaul of their keeping ranks by recruiting two senior shot-stoppers at the end of the season.

According to the aforementioned source, Man United are lining up a ‘blockbuster’ offer for Martinez this summer.
