Man United enter race to sign Christian Eriksen on free transfer

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is stepping up his interest in Christian Eriksen just in case a deal for Frenkie de Jong fails to materialise

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are set to join the race for signing talented Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract at Brentford.

Eriksen joined Brentford on a short-term six-month contract back in January after being released by Inter Milan sometime back. The Danish superstar has had a great time with the Bees and has shown the entire world his potential and the fact that he still has what it takes to be an important player.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has played 11 times in the Premier League for Thomas Frank’s side scoring one goal and providing four assists. The former Tottenham man has been influential for the Bees whenever he has played on the pitch this season.

Christian Eriksen’s contract is about to end this month and renewal with Brentford is unlikely to be in his plans.

The Bees are clearly keen to keep hold and talks have begun. However, he is not short of options. Eriksen’s former club Tottenham have been linked.

With that in mind, United could end up losing out if they do not move quickly. De Jong remains a top target but a deal is far from done. It is said that Barcelona will be more than happy to sell for £70million. Still, the player is reported to have reservations about a switch to Old Trafford, even if Ten Hag is in charge.

United have places to fill and Eriksen is more than capable of doing a job for a couple of seasons at least.

Mistakes have been made in the past with transfers but landing Eriksen on a free surely wouldn’t be another one.
