Man Utd edge closer to Sancho exit as Dortmund talks progress

Jadon Sancho nears Manchester United departure with Borussia Dortmund loan deal swiftly approaching on the horizon

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced discussions with Borussia Dortmund regarding a loan move for Jadon Sancho for the rest of the 2023/24 season. This development comes amidst a strained relationship between Sancho and United manager Erik ten Hag, which became public following an incident in September 2023.

Sancho, a high-profile signing from Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million, struggled to replicate his Bundesliga form at Old Trafford. Despite high expectations, his output of nine Premier League goals in 58 appearances has been underwhelming, leading to widespread scrutiny from fans and pundits.

The tension reached a tipping point when ten Hag omitted Sancho from the squad against Arsenal, citing poor training performance. In response, Sancho expressed his frustrations in a since-deleted social media post, accusing the club of making him a scapegoat.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, speaking exclusively with GIVEMESPORT, revealed that Dortmund is increasingly confident of re-securing Sancho’s services. The German club’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, confirmed ongoing negotiations, stating, “We are in negotiations to sign Jadon Sancho for sure. We want to sign him on loan. That’s no secret.”

Romano further added, “This week is really important for Sancho’s move to Dortmund. The conversation between Man Utd and Borussia Dortmund is very positive. Key details like the loan fee and salary coverage are being meticulously discussed.”

In addition to the Sancho saga, Man Utd is actively exploring the transfer market. There is notable interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, a player United eyed last summer. With the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules in play, a potential swap deal involving Scott McTominay has been hinted at.

As the transfer window drama unfolds, United’s focus also remains on the pitch. They are preparing to host Tottenham Hotspur on 14th January, aiming to reverse their earlier season defeat. Later in January, they will face either Newport County or Eastleigh in the FA Cup Fourth Round, as ten Hag seeks to navigate through a challenging period both on and off the field.
