Rio Ferdinand tips Liverpool to secure top-four spot after convincing win over Arsenal

Former England captain Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool are back in the race after sweeping aside Arsenal while close rivals Chelsea and Tottenham both dropped points.

The Premier League champions have been in woeful form over the winter period but a 3-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday has kept them well in touch of the top four.

Liverpool were also given a major boost by Chelsea’s surprise 5-2 defeat at home to West Brom earlier that day, which means Thomas Tuchel’s men are just two points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side in the table.

Leicester City, meanwhile, also lost ground as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, but Brendan Rodgers’ side still have a seven-point gap over Tottenham, Liverpool and West Ham, who are all level on 49 points.

Rio Ferdinand feels Liverpool are back on track to claim a top-four spot after their convincing 3-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

“I think Liverpool are going to get in there now,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“The result they got at the weekend, the performance and the confidence that will give that team.

“Fabinho back as well is a huge, huge, huge difference.

“I just think Liverpool with how they’ve been in the last two seasons they have that know-how, that nous to go and put a run of results together.

Out of Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool and Spurs, the team who could go on a six, seven, eight-game run [of wins], I think Liverpool are that team.

“I’ve got a sneaky feeling they will. I hope not if I’m being honest.”

Chelsea now have a break from Premier League action, taking on Porto in their Champions League quarter-finals first leg on Wednesday before returning to league action against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Interestingly, Tuchel’s men will face Leicester City in the penultimate league game of their season in what could be a deciding fixture in the top four.
