The mayor of the Sedhiou province in Senegal revealed that the city’s new stadium will be named after Liverpool midfielder Sadio Mane

The Liverpool winger’s scored highly influential performances that included goals, assists and man of the match trophies cemented the winger’s status as one of the greatest players to ever come out of the West African nation.

Now his efforts are being rewarded with the honour of having a stadium located in his home region named after him, as reported by Sport News Africa.

“Sadio Mané has honoured all of Senegal, the Sedhiou region and the entire Casamance area. I have decided to name the Sedhiou stadium after him.

In doing so I wish to convey the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region towards him.

He has made all of mankind aware of Bambali and Sedhiou, the region’s main town. This is a gift that Sadio Mane truly deserves,” said Abdoulaye Diop, the mayor of the Senegalese province of Sedhiou.

Located in southwestern Senegal, Sedhiou is home to less than 25,000 people and has been made famous by Mane’s performances with Liverpool.

The stadium’s construction is set to be completed by 2023, and the native’s hope is that Mane will have the ability to attend the opening ceremony.
