The Secrets Behind Chelsea’s Premier League Success

Many think that Diego Costa is the main reason for Chelsea’s improved campaign last season. But in the end, he only finished as being the league’s 3rd best scorer. More than that, Man City scored 10 more goals in the league and benefited from the services of Kun Aguero – the Premier League Top Scorer.

Defence

John Terry got on the scoresheet quite a few times last season, having scored no less than 8 goals in all competitions for The Blues. Branislav Ivanovic also helped the attack with 6 goals – but this is normal. However, come to think that even John Obi Mikel got his name on the scoresheet during the last campaign; there must be something going on!

Cahill, Matic, Zouma and Luis also added 9 to the total of 107 scored goals during the 2014-2015 season.

But as you know, Mourinho’s reverted total football is slightly inclined towards defence. And it worked, Chelsea is the team who has conceded the least number of goals in the league! Despite the fact that their defensive efforts were impressive last season, I don’t think this was the secret behind their success.

Taka-tiki

Tiki-taki is for Barcelona, a team that focuses on attacking. Funny enough, I found Chelsea’s game somehow similar, but as if it was mirrored in a strange way.

All those short lofted passes remind me of Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc. Fabregas definitely brought something from Camp Nou. So, what’s the catch then?

The Catch

The most important aspect of Chelsea’s success was the fact that most of their attackers are either footed.

Laughing? I remember this was a criteria for being capped by Seleção (Brazil’s NT.)

And I’m not only talking about scoring with both feet, but also being able to comfortably send passes with the second foot. Try to figure out how many goals Costa, Hazard or Remy scored with their weaker foot:

Physical Balance is another key factor, and Oscar seems to be severely missing that.

Does that mean that they will let him go?
